JAX

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) has set up Mamava lactation pod to offer mothers a private, hygienic space to nurse while travelling through the airport.

Located just past the security between two concourses A and C, for easy access, the free-standing lactation suite offers duel seating for a mother and a companion.

In addition, the pod features a fold-down table, power outlet for breast pump, mirror, soft lighting and space for luggage or stroller.

Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) customer service manager Bryan Long said: "We regularly receive enquiries from mothers looking for a private, clean and convenient facility at the airport to pump or nurse.

"We are happy to accommodate their needs with this family-friendly solution."

The $12,000 investment is expected to be welcomed by the mums-on-the-go arriving at the airport.

JIA spokesperson Debbie Jones was quoted by First Coast News as saying: "We believe that having the one unit will be sufficient at this point."

"We do have a little over 2.5 million passengers who leave the airport every year and so at this point based on the feedback we’ve received and the traffic patterns we believe this will be sufficient."

Apart from JAX, all major airports in places like Milwaukee and New York offer the service for travelling mothers.
