Infraero has begun work on the runway expansion project at Rio de Janeiro/Galeao-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport in Brazil.

The R$64.55m ($36.89m) project includes widening the runway from 45m to 60m, and expanding taxiways and aircraft systems.

The expansion will allow the airport to receive large aircraft, such as the A380.

The project will be completed within 24 months, according to airtrafficmanagement.net.
