Kempegowda International Airport, named after Bengaluru’s founder, will have its second terminal designed by the US architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), which has been commissioned by the GVK group owned BIAL.

The construction of the second runway will include the development of a 4,000m x 60m new south parallel runway for Code F type of aircraft, such as the Airbus A380.

The project will also see construction of a parallel taxiway, two cross-field taxiways that will link the new runway with the current north runway and T2 apron, and the widening of the current runway (T1) before the first phase of the second terminal is completed.

Construction of the second runway will also include earth balance works, followed by the development of the primary airfield including pavement work, CAT III B airfield lighting, signage, drainage, and fuel hydrants.
