Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has reported a steady growth of 5.8% year-on-year in July passenger traffic, after handling around 6.3 million passengers during the month.
The increase was a result of an 11% year-on-year growth in the number of Hong Kong residents using the airport.
HKIA also said that the low base in South Korean routes, which was caused by an MERS outbreak last year, was one of the reasons for the passenger growth in recent months.
Passenger traffic to / from North Asia and Mainland China recorded the most significant increases.
The airport reported that flight movements rose 2.9% to 35,200 compared to the same month in 2015, while cargo throughput saw a 4.7% year-on-year increase to 380,000t.
Traffic to / from key trading regions in North America, Mainland China and Southeast Asia increased, while transshipments saw a 15% year-on-year growth.
