Honeywell Aerospace and GDC Technics have partnered to offer Honeywell JetWave satellite communications system for Boeing and Airbus business and commercial aircraft.

Honeywell’s JetWave satellite connectivity hardware is said to support Inmarsat’s Jet ConneX Wi-Fi service, which is scheduled for launch in the second half of 2015.

The service will provide aircraft with high speed in-flight Wi-Fi worldwide, over land and sea.

It will allow passengers to video-conference, send and receive files and stream high-quality television and movies, while operators will be able to stream data between the ground and the aircraft.

Honeywell Aerospace global sales, business and general aviation vice president Mike Beazley said: "Through this agreement with GDC Technics, Boeing and Airbus operators will soon be able to easily upgrade their aircraft with one of the most advanced and capable in-flight connectivity systems on the market."

GDC Technics will develop supplemental type certificates for Honeywell’s JetWave hardware for Airbus A319, A330 and A340 aircraft, as well as the Boeing 737, 747, 777 and 787.

GDC Technics general partner Mohammed Alzeer said: "High-speed, consistent in-flight Wi-Fi over land and sea is a technology game-changer for the industry; through this agreement with Honeywell we will soon be bringing to VIP, heads of state and commercial air transport aircraft around the world unprecedented levels of connectivity."

Based in San Antonio, Texas, GDC Technics is an aircraft modification centre with approvals from the FAA and EASA and a design organisation approval. It is also certified to ISO 9001, AS9100 and AS9110 quality management systems.
