London's Heathrow Airport will begin the preparation of a planning application to expand the airport with the construction of a new runway.
Heathrow Airport intends to formally submit the planning application in 2019 after the UK Government has designated the National Policy Statement.
Heathrow Airport expansion director Emma Gilthorpe said: “Heathrow has its team in place, working to deliver the benefits of expansion in the most sustainable way.
“During the detailed planning process there will be lots of opportunities for local communities, industry partners and other interested parties to help shape our proposals.
“Together, we want to create a plan that not only boosts the economy, locally and across the UK, but one that delivers a lasting legacy in the local area and tackles important local issues, including reducing noise and meeting air quality requirements.”

By GlobalDataThe airport has decided to begin preparation of a planning application after the government made an announcement in October this year that a new runway is the preferred option for the expansion of Heathrow.
With an aim to inform its planning application, the airport will carry out extensive engagement and consultation with local communities and other stakeholders on a wide range of aspects included in the scheme, such as environmental impacts and project design.
Commencing early next year, the first step of the planning application will include wildlife and other environmental surveys in the local area.
