Guernsey Airport has awarded a £55m runway contract to Lagan Construction as part of its redevelopment project.

Lagan Construction was chosen in February 2011 through a tender process, beating three other companies.

Planning approval for work at the airport was given earlier this month.

The airport will invest £80m in refurbishing the airfield, including moving the runway to the west, which is expected to take two years to complete, according to bbc.co.uk.
