ExxonMobil and Pratt & Whitney have partnered to test synthetic jet engine oil Mobil Jet Oil 387 on PurePower engine variants.

The testing programme will comprise PurePower engines such as PW1100G-JM, PW1200G, PW1400G, PW1500G, PW800, PW1700G and PW1900G. It is scheduled to begin in early 2015.

Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines president Greg Gernhardt said: "We are very pleased to be collaborating with ExxonMobil to begin testing Mobil Jet Oil 387 in our PurePower Geared Turbofan engine line.

"The engines are available as option for the Airbus A320neo family and Irkut MC-21 series aircraft."

Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower engines are equipped on regional and single-aisle aircraft, including Bombardier CSeries, Mitsubishi Regional Jet, Gulfstream G500 and G600 business jets, and Embraer’s second-generation E-Jets.

The engines are available as option for the Airbus A320neo family and Irkut MC-21 series aircraft.

ExxonMobil global aviation lubricant sales manager Frans Horjus said: "As the most advanced high-performance capability oil that ExxonMobil has ever developed, Mobil Jet Oil 387 is also an ideal option for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower engine line."

Approved to the SAE AS5780 high-performance capability specification, the Mobil Jet Oil 387 is said to offer various benefits, including seal compatibility, deposit control, oxidative stability and low temperature fluidity.
