Established as part of a new 11,000m² extension of Emirates SkyCentral terminal at Dubai International Airport, Emirates SkyPharma will use 4,000m² of the area to store pharmaceutical cargo.

"Pharmaceuticals are one of the most important products we transport because of the impact on people’s lives and communities across the world."

The facility will be equipped with 88 temperature-controlled zones, as well as five temperature-controlled acceptance and delivery truck docks.

Emirates cargo divisional senior vice-president Nabil Sultan said: “Pharmaceuticals are one of the most important products we transport because of the impact on people’s lives and communities across the world.

“As a leader in the global air cargo industry we decided that it was not only important for us to build state-of- the-art cool chain facilities for the transport of pharma products but to also go the extra mile and ensure the compliance of our operations against the highest international standards.

A team from Bureau Veritas inspected the facility before awarding it a certificate of compliance under the EU Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines for medicinal products.

Emirates SkyPharma will work in collaboration with Emirates SkyCentral, which is Emirates’ freighter hub in Dubai World Central.

Last year, Emirates SkyCargo transported around 11,000t of pharmaceutical goods, including critical medication for diabetes and cancer, through its hub in Dubai.
