Germany’s Smiths Detection has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to deploy speed and security aviation solutions at all MOD airports worldwide.

Under the contract, the company will provide HI-SCAN 145180-2 dual-view X-ray equipment for inspecting air cargo, CEIA PMD2PLUS walk-through metal detectors, IONSCAN 600 trace detectors and millimetre-wave eqo scanners for passenger screening, as well as a ten-year support programme.

In another contract, Smiths has secured a supply contract to deliver new hold baggage screening equipment at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.

Under the contract, the company will deploy 24 HI-SCAN 10080 XCT systems at Schiphol Airport. The contract also includes an option to deliver six additional systems at Lelystad airport, Rotterdam – The Hague airport and Eindhoven airport.

The new equipment, which will comply with the latest European Union (EU) regulations of EDS Standard 3, will be delivered over the next five years.

Hellenic Duty Free Shops, a subsidiary of travel retailer, Dufry, has been appointed by Fraport Greece, the new operator of 14 regional airports in Greece, to exclusively operate airside retail activities at all of its airports.

The 30-year agreement also includes expanding  to approximately 12,000m² and significant expansion of landside floor space.
