Enav contract Libya airport ATC

Italian air navigation service provider, Enav, has been awarded a €5m ($5.3m) contract by the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority to construct and set up a control tower and technical building at Libya’s Mitiga airport.

The new facilities, to be completed by the end of 2017, will offer all air navigation services and improve the operational efficiency and safety of flight operations at the airport.

Enav is also training 60 Libyan air traffic controllers, who will operate in the Libyan airspace after a long period of inactivity caused by the no-fly zone regulations in the country.

Aireon has signed an agreement with Spanish air navigation service provider, ENAIRE, to investigate the safety, efficiency and environmental benefits of using space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) technology in its controlled airspace.

For the first time ever, ENAIRE will receive 100%, real-time visibility for 2.2 million km² of airspace through the space-based ADS-B system.

Completion of the ADS-B system is scheduled for 2018, upon deployment of the Iridium NEXT satellite constellation.
