Smiths Detection has installed four of its high-speed CTX 9800 DSi hold baggage explosives detection systems (EDS) to screen all passenger-checked luggage at Cochin International Airport in Kerala, India.
The CTX 9800 DSi detection systems have been deployed at the newly inaugurated international Terminal 3 of the Cochin Airport, making it the first Indian airport to screen all checked baggage, referred to as Level 1 screening, with computed tomography (CT)-based EDS.

CT EDS are said to generate high-resolution 3D images that ensure efficient and precise baggage explosive detections, as well as reduce false alarm rates and the need for manual inspections.

Under the deal, the onsite network of expert engineers and technicians at the company will deliver preventative and rapid-response services for a minimum of ten years to maximise performance.
More than 2,000 units of Smiths Detection’s CTX family of EDS are currently deployed worldwide.
