CFM International has secured two orders worth more than $1.2bn from Russia’s VEB Leasing to supply LEAP-1A engines.

One of the orders will see the supply of LEAP-1A engines for VEB Leasing’s 20 new Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, the delivery of which is set to begin in 2019.

A 50/50 company between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines, CFM International will also supply its LEAP-1A engines to power the leasing company’s 22 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

Deliveries of the new 737 MAX aircraft are scheduled to begin next year.

VEB Leasing acting general director Iurii Gaichenia said: “The engine is building a very good reputation in service and we believe it will become a real asset for us and our customer.”

Since its entry into service last year, the LEAP-1A engine has been offering services to its 14 operators.

“The engine is building a very good reputation in service and we believe it will become a real asset for us and our customer.”

The engine is designed to improve fuel-efficiency, while reducing noise, and carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions.

In a separate development, GE Aviation has agreed to form a new engine overhaul joint venute (JV) with SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC).

To be based in Singapore, the proposed JV will offer a complete range of engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the GE90 and GE9X engines.

The GE90 engine currently powers the Boeing 777-300ER and 777-200LR aircraft exclusively, while the GE9X engine is the sole engine selected for the Boeing 777X aircraft.
