Bombardier Business Aircraft has completed the maiden flight of its Global 7000 aircraft programme, marking the start of a flight test programme of the aircraft family.

During the 2h 27min flight, the Global 7000 flight test vehicle took off from Bombardier’s facility in Toronto, Canada.

The flight tested the basic system functionality, as well as evaluated the handling and flying qualities of the aircraft.

All flight controls were also exercised during the test flight, which reached an altitude of 20,000ft at a planned speed of 240k.

“The Global 7000 business jet’s impressive capabilities promise to establish a whole new category for large business jets.”

Capable of carrying eight passengers, Bombardier’s flagship Global aircraft family is set to enter service by the second half of 2018.

Bombardier Business Aircraft president David Coleal said: "The first flight is the culmination of an incredible amount of knowledge and experience from our dedicated employees, partners and suppliers.
