Bombardier Business Aircraft has completed the maiden flight of its Global 7000 aircraft programme, marking the start of a flight test programme of the aircraft family.

During the 2h 27min flight, the Global 7000 flight test vehicle took off from Bombardier’s facility in Toronto, Canada.

The flight tested the basic system functionality, as well as evaluated the handling and flying qualities of the aircraft.

All flight controls were also exercised during the test flight, which reached an altitude of 20,000ft at a planned speed of 240k.

Capable of carrying eight passengers, Bombardier’s flagship Global aircraft family is set to enter service by the second half of 2018.

Designed to offer an improved cabin experience, the Global 7000 business jet will provide four living spaces and a dedicated crew area.

A new transonic wing design has also been developed for the aircraft, which expects to offer non-stop flights between London and Singapore, or from New York City, US, to Dubai, UAE, under certain operating conditions.
