Boeing expects to design the BBJ Combi based on the existing BBJ Convertible, which is built on the 737-700C passengers to cargo conversion aircraft.

The 737-700C based BBJ Convertible features a large cargo door to the left of the forward fuselage making it possible to load cargo onto the aircraft main deck.

Boeing Business Jets president David Longridge said: "We are very excited about the possibility of a BBJ Combi.

"We currently offer a product that can be configured for all passengers or cargo and we think that the BBJ Combi could be the next step and a great addition to the BBJ family.

Currently, five charter companies operate 18 BBJs in China. Boeing estimates China to be strong market for its BBJs.

Longridge said: "Customers in China, as they increase their international presence, prefer BBJ products because of their range capability, large and comfortable cabin, low-maintenance and high-reliability.

"BBJs allow business leaders to get where they need to go without the inconvenience of unexpected delays, providing them the flexibility and freedom they need."

Boeing Business Jets offers various ultra-large-cabin, long range aircraft for the private jet segment, including the BBJ and BBJ MAX family, as well as wide-bodied BBJ 787, 777, and 747.
