BAA, the operator of two London airports, has reported a 4.3% rise in passenger traffic to 66.7 million during the first nine months of 2011 compared with the corresponding period in 2010.
Passenger traffic at Heathrow International Airport rose 6.1% to 52.6 million while passenger numbers at Stansted fell by 2.1% over the same period.
European scheduled traffic showed the most significant year-on-year growth, increasing 8.3% to 19.9 million passengers compared with the 18.4 million passengers recorded in 2010.
Stansted airport reported a 2.1% decline in passenger numbers to 14.1 million compared with 14.4 million passengers during the corresponding period last year.
The decline in Stansted traffic in 2011 was due to the drop in domestic passenger numbers.
