Arcadis has been selected by Manchester Airports Group (M.A.G) to carry out the £1bn transformation programme at Manchester Airport in the UK.

As a sole managed service provider, Arcadis will lead the ten-year investment programme, which is expected to create 1,500 jobs.

The company will be responsible for the programme management of the entire transformation, encompassing programme and project controls, commercial, risk, value management and design guardianship as well as supporting M.A.G in the wider stakeholder management as the airport seeks to realise its significant capacity for growth.

"Whilst we are just at the start of this transformation project, there is already a great sense of excitement about what will be delivered and how."

Work under the transformation includes construction of 50 new food and beverage and retail outlets at the airport.

The project also includes the increase of Terminal 2 size by 140% at the airport.

Arcadis UK CEO Alan Brookes said: "With Manchester expected to play a significant role as one of the economic ‘powerhouses’ in the North of England, investment in infrastructure and transportation are key for the city and vital in terms of helping to accelerate growth potential.

"With major long-term projects of this nature, being able to offer certainty of outcome is integral for everyone involved and, as Arcadis, the fact that we can operate across the entire project lifecycle played a major part in our being awarded the contract."

Expected to be completed by the year 2025, the transformation programme will improve the passenger and airline experience at the airport.

Manchester Airport transformation programme director Brad Miller said: "We are investing £1bn in the ten year programme which will radically improve the passenger and airline experience at Manchester Airport. Whilst we are just at the start of this transformation project, there is already a great sense of excitement about what will be delivered and how.

"The team and I are delighted to have appointed Arcadis to support us on this journey, as they have clearly demonstrated how they will bring value to the programme."

Arcadis has recently committed to develop a plan to reduce energy use by 50% in buildings by 2030.

The company will work alongside AkzoNobel, ENGIE, Infosys, LafargeHolcim, Rexel, Schneider Electric, SGS, Siemens, Skanska and United Technologies to install low carbon technologies.
