Japan-based airline ANA Holdings has entered an agreement to buy three A380 superjumbos from Airbus.
The deal is valued at 150bn yen ($1.25bn), reported Nikkei.
According to Bloomberg, a source familiar with the deal said the parent of All Nippon Airways will take delivery of the planes from 2018. The planes will be deployed on the carrier’s Tokyo to Hawaii route.
The deal is a part of ANA’s bigger strategic plan to renew its fleet and is planned to be launched later this month.
The A380 superjumbo is the largest plane from Airbus that can carry at least 525 passengers. Depending on the configuration, it can carry more than 800 people.
The latest order is the first in three years for A380, which is valued at a list price of $428m.

By GlobalDataANA spokesman Ryosei Nomura said: "We are currently formulating the next medium-term management strategy and considering various options for planes."
He did not specifically comment on the A380.
In 2013, Airbus collaborated with Japan Airlines and secured a deal for 18 widebody, twin-engine A350-900 planes, and 13 larger A350-1000 aircraft.
In 2014, Japanese discount carrier Skymark Airlines cancelled a $2bn contract that included six of the superjumbo passenger jets, A380, with Airbus.
At the Dubai Air Show in November, an Airbus official mentioned that two potential customers were considering orders for the double decker planes.
One of those orders might include ten to 12 aircraft, and another may include up to 20 jets.
