Air France and aircraft manufacturer Airbus have completed the world’s greenest commercial flight by combining the latest fuel and air traffic management (ATM) technologies.
The commercial flight (AF6129) combined for the first time a mixture comprising half biofuels in each engine, optimised air traffic management (ATM) and efficient continuous descent approach (CDA) to reduce CO2 emissions.
The company said the combination of these technologies helped to halve the overall CO2 emissions to 54g per passenger per kilometre, which is equivalent to a fuel efficiency of 2.2l of fuel per passenger over 100km.
Air France flew an Airbus A321 aircraft from Toulouse to Paris’s Orly airport to demonstrate the reduction of half of CO2 emissions.
