Abu Dhabi Airports Company has received six tenders for the construction of an AED11.7bn ($3.2bn) midfield terminal building at Abu Dhabi International Airport, as part of the airport’s AED25bn redevelopment plan.

The 700,000 square metres terminal building will initially handle 30 million passengers per year.

Bidders for the project include Al Habtoor-Murray & Roberts, Bechtel-Al Jaber, Hyundai Engineering & Construction-Kumho, Larsen & Toubro-NPC, Samsung-ACC and TAV-CCC.

A second runway and a third terminal have already been completed as part of the redevelopment project.

Construction of the midfield terminal will begin during the second quarter of 2012 and will be complete by the first half of 2017.
