Germany’s Munich Airport International (MAI) and Urban-Air Port (UAP) have partnered to develop electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) ground infrastructure and airport operations.
This partnership will combine MAI’s airport knowledge and operational experience with UAP’s ground infrastructure technology and solutions.

Both organisations will create a roadmap for efficient and sustainable flight operations of electric air taxis that are projected to be operational by the middle of the decade.
At present, UAP is executing its ‘Air One’ programme.
Under this project, UAP intends to develop a fully operational and integrated airport for eVTOL, as well as drones, which connect air mobility with ground transportation in a multimodal centre.
Planned to be located in a downtown setting, Air One will be showcased to the industry and the public for the first time in Coventry, UK, in the second quarter of next year.

By GlobalDataUnder the demonstration, UAP expects to showcase an ultra-compact, rapidly deployable, multi-functional operations hub for manned and unmanned vehicles.
This hub will offer aircraft command and control, charging and refuelling, cargo and passenger loading and other related services.
MAI managing director Dr Ralf Gaffal said: “Partnering with Urban-Air Port allows us to join forces in designing, implementing and operating scalable and sustainable urban-air ports around the world.”

In July, Munich Airport and Citiri announced that they are ready to partner to deliver digital ORAT services to airport operators and infrastructure developers.
