According to news agency PTI, the QR code-enabled system will enable passengers to use their mobile phones to remotely operate check-in and self-bag drop kiosks and generate boarding passes and luggage tags.

This will be enabled after the passengers scan a QR code shown on the kiosks to access a remote keyboard and mouse on their mobile device.

In a statement, Mumbai International Airport (MIAL), the operator of the airport, said that the move will limit contact with the kiosk surfaces.

The contactless technology was developed by SITA, a Swiss firm that delivers technology solutions to the air transport industry.
