Designa Access Corporation has selected Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions provider omniQ to deploy its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered omniQ VISION technology at Miami International Airport (MIA) in the US.

omniQ VISION is a licence plate recognition (LPR) and vehicle recognition technology.

The company secured the deal after participating in a detailed request for quotation (RFQ) organised by Designa, along with other LPR firms.

Designa has been appointed as the contracted PARCS vendor for Miami-Dade County for the installation of a new Parking Access and Revenue Control System, including License Plate Recognition.

In a statement, omniQ said: “Key requirements for Designa’s RFQ included the ability to work in a VM Ware environment along with providing a fully integrated fixed and mobile LPR solution from the same supplier utilising a single database of LPR records.”

According to the agreement, omniQ Vision will be deployed at more than 50 fixed lanes of LPR for entry and exit plazas at the airport, covering licence plate processing in a virtualised setting along with failover capabilities.

Additionally, the contract encompasses the setting up of omniQ’s SeeMobile Vehicle-Mounted LPR and SeePatrol Handheld LPR units for licence plate inventory along with Bluetooth printers for vehicle notifications.

The installation of the system at the airport is anticipated to take place during Q4 2021.

With this deployment, Miami International Airport is said to become the fourth airport in Florida to install omniQ VISION AI LPR-based solutions.

At present, Jacksonville (JAX), Tampa (TPA) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) International Airports are using this technology.

omniQ CEO Shai Lustgarten said: “The momentum continues, omniQ VISION’s selection by Designa at Miami International follows a successful multi-year deployment with Designa at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, covering the four New York Area Airports for our integrated fixed and mobile LPR systems.”

Currently, omniQ VISION is in service at over 40 airports including Atlanta (ATL), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) in New York.

In June, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) awarded a contract to omniQ for the installation of its EZ Edge VRS Deployment Kit.
