German firm Lufthansa Technik has unveiled plans to expand its aircraft engine maintenance and repair centre in Montréal, Canada.

The company aims for a three-fold increase in the local capacity for its Mobile Engine Services offerings. The expansion is expected to generate 50 new jobs in Montréal-Dorval over the next three years.

In addition, Lufthansa Technik will establish a professional on-site training workshop, inspired by the German dual model.

The firm’s Mobile Engine Services business includes on-wing and on-site services conducted directly at an airline customer’s location, as well as repair solutions performed in specialised engine shops.

“The repair station in Montréal is already one of the backbones in our global Mobile Engine Services network.”

According to the company, the services enable the optimisation of the service-life of modern aircraft engines. This will help airlines to avoid or postpone regular overhaul shop visits.

The firm added that this approach will deliver benefits to airlines such as reduced costs and other savings through shorter turnaround times and decreased transportation costs.

Lufthansa Technik North America On-Site Engine Services director Klaus Lorenz said: “The repair station in Montréal is already one of the backbones in our global Mobile Engine Services network.

“Thus, we plan to intensify our very positive relationship with the city of Montréal and the province of Québec, and we are also looking forward to welcoming dozens of new colleagues from this region in the Lufthansa Technik family.”

In addition to the Montreal site, the aircraft services firm has three more Mobile Engine Services repair facilities in Tulsa, Frankfurt and Shenzhen.

In February, Lufthansa Technik acquired a property in Miskolc, Hungary, to establish an aircraft engine parts repair and overhaul centre.

The proposed facility will be known as Lufthansa Technik Miskolc and become operational in 2022.

Last month, the company reported a nearly 10% growth in revenue for 2018.
