Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in the US has installed a facial recognition system by IDEMIA in its new West Gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal.
The installation forms part of a contract secured by e-gate technology provider EASIER from LAX’s operator Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).

The solution will help the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enhance security and border control at the airport.
The aim is to offer a more accurate, quicker and touchless boarding experience to travellers.
IDEMIA North America travel and transport vice-president Lisa Sullivan said: “With IDEMIA’s advanced facial recognition technology, which was ranked one in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) latest Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT), airports will be equipped to deliver the best-in-class passenger experience utilising our accurate and responsible system.”
EASIER managing director Ludovic Libeski said: “Faced with an unprecedented health crisis, EASIER teams and our partner IDEMIA mobilised to ensure a large-scale deployment of solutions at the largest Origin and Destination airport in the United States and to improve the passenger experience.”

Furthermore, the passengers can opt out of the facial image capture and go for processing by airline agents involving a passport and boarding pass instead.
The airport is the latest addition to the list of several airports where IDEMIA’s facial recognition technology is being used, along with CBP.
Last week, Congonhas Airport (CGH) in Brazil started testing a digital facial recognition technology developed by IDEMIA in the shuttle service operating between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
