Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) has revealed plans to construct an entertainment arena at Kempegowda International Airport in Karnataka, India.

The facility will be built with an investment of Rs1bn ($14.1m) and is expected to open in two years.

Spread over an area of 6.3 acres, the arena will be constructed by a consortium of Phase 1 Experiences and Embassy Group.

The consortium will carry out the work with live entertainment company Live Nation as the consultant.

Nikhil Chinapa, a music entrepreneur and festival curator, has been hired to serve as the strategy and communications lead.

The arena will feature four zones, a supersize dome with a capacity of 9,000 people, a second dome for corporate events with a capacity of 2,000 people, an outdoor space to host open-air events and a pop-up zone.

The finished arena will be used as a multi-purpose venue and is the first to be established in any airport. It will be used to conduct events and other activities.

BIAL chief real estate officer Rao Munukutla stated that this facility will help the company to offer better services to passengers and airport visitors.

Phase 1 Experiences founder and managing director Oum Pradutt added that the arena is expected to be similar to concert arenas such as New York’s Madison Square Garden and London’s O2 Arena.

Kempegowda International Airport recently started operations on its second runway.

With the opening of the south runway, measuring 4000m long and 45m wide, the airport becomes the first in India to have two parallel runways capable of simultaneous take-offs.

In September, BIAL teamed up with IT firm Datamics Global Services for digital transformation plans.
