Dublin Airport managing director Vincent Harrison said: “The huge growth that we have had in passenger numbers in recent years created significant demand for extra boarding gate space and aircraft parking stands and this new facility meets those requirements in a modern flexible way.

“We have worked closely with our airline customers to deliver a quality new facility in a rapid timeframe.”

Passengers will walk out to the aircraft from the new boarding gates. This means the new boarding gate area will provide faster turnaround time for airline operations.

“Dublin Airport is constructing the new boarding gate area thanks to an investment programme of more than €100m.”

A shuttle bus service will start from the existing lounge at Gate 335 every two minutes to carry passengers to and from the new boarding gate facility.

South Gates boarding area can accommodate 1,000 passengers. It features a café, toilets, baby changing facilities and a workstation area with plugs and charging points for passenger comfort.

Under the investment programme, resurfacing of the main runway has taken place, as well as an extension to the 100 boarding gate area, and an upgrade of the 200 gates.
