Embraer has confirmed the conclusion of the sale of an E190-E2 jet to Brazilian financial institution Crefisa.

The bank plans to use the jet to provide charter operations for Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras (Palmeiras), as well as other “top football teams” in the country.

Palmeiras is based in the city of São Paulo, which is also home to Brazilian top-flight teams Sport Club Corinthians Paulista (Corinthians) and São Paulo Futebol Clube (São Paulo). The three clubs are some of the biggest in Brazil, and enjoy fierce cross-city rivalries with each other.

Financial details of the sale have not been confirmed.

Since 2015, Crefisa has been the main shirt sponsor of Brazilian footballing giant Palmeiras, the most successful club in top-tier domestic competitions in the country and one of the most supported teams in South America.

The deal, reported as the “largest sponsorship in Latin America” at the time, was renewed in 2021 until 2024, with the club potentially standing to earn around BRL100m ($20.8m) per season.

The aircraft, which will fly under Placar Linhas Aéreas livery, was delivered during a ceremony at Embraer’s facility in São José dos Campos in the Brazillian state of São Paulo.

Placar Linhas Aéreas is a new airline, founded by Crefisa in October 2022. It is currently undergoing the certification process with the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC).

“The E2 is an extremely comfortable and efficient aircraft – perfect for football travel,” said Leila Pereira, owner of Crefisa Group and president of Palmeiras.

“We’re proud to be working with Embraer, another one of Brazil’s global success stories, as we develop our own charter operation with Placar Linhas Aéreas. Arriving in style on Brazil’s most modern jet is a great way for any team to start the match day.”

The E190-E2’s range of 2,850 nautical miles (5,278km) allows direct flights to all destinations in South America when departing from São Paulo, Brazil.

The Embraer E2 jet, which the Brazilian jet manufacturer claims is “the quietest and most fuel-efficient” jet available, will transport team members and staff to match destinations and be available for more regular charter operations.

“This deal matches two of Brazil’s world-leading areas of success – football and aviation. Embraer staff are huge fans of the game and will be excited to see their footballing heroes flying on the company’s new E2 aircraft,” said Francisco Gomes Neto, president and CEO of Embraer.

“The fuel efficiency and short runway performance are an obvious choice for the startup operator, offering an immediate option to serve regional airports, including those with shortened runways unable to handle large aircraft.”

The deal was conducted by Embraer’s Asset Management Group and booked in Embraer’s Q4 2022 backlog.
