Collins Aerospace has provided its CabinConnect broadband connectivity solution to Norwegian’s Boeing long-haul 787-9 Dreamliner and 737 MAX aircraft fleet.
The airline’s first 787-9 Dreamliner featuring CabinConnect has already taken its first flight, allowing passengers to have access to free and high-speed Wi-Fi service.
The service is also expected to debut on most of Norwegian’s transatlantic flights.
It will help passengers with streaming video and music content, internet browsing, and accessing social media, voice and messaging services over the Inmarsat Global Xpress (GX) satellite network.
More than half of Norwegian’s 787-9 Dreamliner fleet intends to offer in-flight connectivity by 2020, while the 737 MAX fleet is expected to provide the service in mid-January.
Norwegian business development vice-president Boris Bubresko said: “We’re an innovative airline that’s introducing brand new long-haul aircraft to our fleet, as well as enhancing our global network to meet customer demand.

Norwegian’s initiative to offer in-flight connectivity is also part of the company’s vision to shift to a fully connected aircraft fleet in the future.
Availability of broadband connectivity on the flight deck improves certain safety functions and helps deliver new cockpit services such as electronic flight bag and real-time high-definition weather information to operators.
Collins aerospace information management services vice-president and general manager LeAnn Ridgeway said: “Our ability to address both Norwegian’s cabin and flight deck requirements with a combination of industry-leading services and hardware provides the airline with a seamless solution.
“We are collaborating with Norwegian to achieve their vision of optimising its aircraft and enterprise operations, as well as integrating new capabilities going forward.”
Last December, Collins Aerospace secured a deal from Lufthansa Group to provide its Aerospace ARINC GLOBALink service, which is capable of facilitating advanced air-to-ground aviation communications.
