By using Nokia Optical LAN, the airport will be able to support its prevailing CCTV operations and intelligent subsystems, noted the telecom vendor.

Compared to copper LAN networks, this network will build on the bandwidth competencies of fibre, covering larger distances in a smaller footprint.

While minimising capital and operational costs, Nokia Optical LAN is said to provide a ‘scalable, flexible and sustainable way’ to connect applications.

Nokia’s network will utilise the Nokia PCC for streamlining network monitoring and operations, which will keep up with the future digital capability add-ons.

For data’s security and availability, the network will rely on geo-redundancy.

Nokia Asia Pacific and Japan enterprise head Stuart Hendry said: “Changi Airport has a clear mission to become the world’s leading digital air hub, transforming its operations efficiently and securely to deliver a seamless travel experience for passengers. This transformation to Airport 4.0 relies on secure and powerful networks that can connect thousands of devices.

Beaqon subsidiary TJ Systems managing director Jimmy Leow said: “Using Nokia Optical LAN, we can deploy a highly cost-effective solution that will deliver greater reach than copper LAN technology while ensuring data security as Changi Airport expands capabilities.”

In April, Changi Airport Group launched the new Safe Travel Concierge (STC) one-stop portal for passengers flying to Singapore amid Covid-19.

The new online concierge service allows passengers to book their on-arrival Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and check if they have completed all the pre-travel requirements to enter the country.
