Singapore Changi Airport is set to reopen its Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 3 (T3) to the public on 1 September, along with additional safeguard measures for passengers, airport workers and public.

To reduce interaction between arriving passengers and local residents, the airport has restricted the use of the Arrival Halls to arriving travellers and professional meet-and-greet services.

Passengers arriving from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, and other low-risk countries can only be received in the Arrival Halls.

Furthermore, a new dedicated dining zone has been established at T3 Basement 2 (T3B2) next to the Kopitiam food court solely for airport staff.

This initiative aims to reduce the interaction of airport staff with the public.

As part of safeguard measures, the air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation systems at the terminals have also been improved to fight against the more transmissible Covid-19 variants.

For enhancing the air quality, the airport has started using hospital grade MERV-14 filters and deployed UV-C sanitisation in the air-conditioning systems.

In addition, the main dining area at the Kopitiam food court has now been equipped with portable air purifiers with HEPA filters.

Some portion of the area at the T3 Arrival Hall has been transformed into a staff rest area.

The food and beverage as well as retail outlets situated at T3 Arrival Hall will be temporarily shut to the public for this zonal segregation.

Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore director-general Mr Han Kok Juan said: “We are satisfied with the safeguards put in place by Changi Airport Group and the airport community for the reopening of Terminals 1 and 3.

“As Singapore takes cautious steps to further reopen our borders, we need to ensure that Changi Airport remains a safe airport for travellers coming into and transiting through Singapore, airport workers and the general public.”

In June this year, Nokia teamed up with Singapore-based IT solutions integrator Beaqon to install its passive optical local area network (POL) solution at Changi Airport.
