Turkey-based Çelebi Airport Services has secured the license from Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) to run ground handling services at Kempegowda International Airport in in India.
Çelebi won the contract after a competitive bidding process that saw participation by a number of global ground handling players.
The concession, which will be valid for a period of ten years, is scheduled to become effective from August this year.
Under the terms of the agreement, Çelebi will offer ground handling services to further improve the customer experience at BIAL.
Çelebi Aviation Holding India CEO Murali Ramachandran said: “This partnership is an important step towards strengthening our presence and commitment in the India market and comes on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of our India operations.
“We are focused on expanding our footprint within the country and stand committed to catalysing the growth story of the Indian aviation sector. India is a key market, well set for a major growth path and Çelebi is well positioned to contribute, support and play a meaningful role in this change process.”
The company is planning to invest up to $9m in the airport, to ensure safe, customer friendly and environmentally friendly passenger and aircraft handling at BIAL.
Çelebi is already providing ground handling services in the Indian cities of Mumbai and Delhi. The company also manages operations in Cochin, Ahmedabad, and was recently awarded the license by Kannur International Airport.
