Textron Aviationmarsha has secured a two-aircraft purchase agreement with AIR Marshall Islands for the Cessna SkyCourier.

The twin-engine, large-utility turboprop will be utilised for passenger transport across the Pacfic state.

AIR Marshall Islands, owned by the Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, operates out of Majuro.

AIR Marshall Islands CEO and general manager Captain Albon Jelke said: “Our new SkyCouriers are perfectly designed to reach the remote atolls and islands, ensuring that essential air services are accessible to both our local communities and visitors.”

With its single-pilot operation, high-wing configuration, and substantial payload capacity, the SkyCourier is intended to meet various aviation requirements and offer a balance of performance and lower operating costs, Textron said.

It caters to air freight, commuter, and special mission operations with both freighter and passenger variants along with a Combi configuration or gravel kit. The freighter can handle three LD3 shipping containers and boasts a 6,000-pound payload capability.

The passenger variant of the SkyCourier accommodates 19 passengers and features convenient boarding through crew and passenger doors and features large windows for natural light.

Both configurations offer single-point pressure refuelling for quick turnarounds.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65SC engines and equipped with the McCauley Propeller C779 and Garmin G1000 NXi avionics, the aircraft has a cruise speed of more than 200ktas and a maximum range of 900 nautical miles.

Textron Aviation global sales and flight operations senior vice president Lannie O’Bannion said: “The Cessna SkyCourier is an excellent choice to support the mission of AIR Marshall Islands. With its low operating costs and maximum cabin flexibility, the SkyCourier is a real game-changer in regional connectivity.”

Last month, IAM Local 774 members ratified a new contract with Textron Aviation, securing better wages and benefits after previous offers were rejected over compensation and healthcare concerns.
