Accipiter Radar Technologies has secured a contract to provide its patented 3D Total Coverage avian radar system to Canada’s Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
The Total Coverage radar system has been developed on the basis of Accipiter’s Radar Intelligence Network (RIN) Platform Technology.
The scalable and flexible radar system is designed to provide safe operation in the field of aviation.
Accipiter has also developed a suite of Surveillance-to-Intelligence (S2I) user applications to deliver several live, historical and analytical capabilities for risk assessment, mitigation and integration with safety management systems.
Vancouver International Airport airside operations director Geert Bos said: “Safety and security is at the heart of YVR’s operations.
“We are located on a migratory bird path and as a result we have a responsibility to ensure safe aircraft operations while conserving wildlife.
“We are always working on new and innovative solutions to manage the unique wildlife environment in which YVR is situated and we’re confident that the addition of Accipiter’s avian radar will advance our safety and sustainability agenda.”
YVR is currently estimated to handle more than 24.2 million passengers annually.
Accipiter sales and marketing vice-president Simon Jerome said: “Our mutually high standards, and missions of consistent improvement in aviation safety makes working with Vancouver International Airport a natural fit for us.”
In October 2016, Accipiter Radar Technologies was selected to provide the Total Coverage system to Turkey’s New Istanbul Airport.
The contract was awarded by the airport’s developer and operator, İGA Havalimanı İşletmesi.
