Route Exchange Live takes the online product into Routes events, giving airlines the opportunity to promote their brand to their target airport market. It also allows airlines to educate a select audience of airports on their requirements for potential new services.
This year's world event in Berlin will see the largest number of Route Exchange Briefings ever held at a Routes event. With three dedicated Route Exchange theatres - more than ever before - Routes expects more than double the number of briefings held at last year's event in Vancouver. This means unparalleled opportunities to gain an insight into the planning structure of airlines.
Previously, airlines such as Etihad, Ryanair, easyJet and Jetstar Airways have delivered live Route Exchange briefings at Routes events.
"The number of briefings taking place this year proves that Route Exchange Live continues to attract airlines on a global basis and from all sectors of the industry, including the likes of Lufthansa, British Airways, Southwest Airlines and Emirates," says Paul Winfield, airline relations director for Routes.

Earlier this year, Route Exchange Live at Routes Europe in Cagliari saw AirAsia X launch its full request for proposal (RFP) to the European market for their A330 aircraft based in Kuala Lumpur. For airlines, providing such a document through Route Exchange means that it is a transparent yet formal process, which reaches the global community of airports on Routesonline.
Talks from key airlines
Twenty airlines have already committed to delivering a briefing at this year's event in Berlin, with many others in negotiations. Among those are: Bart Van de Stege, vice-president planning, marketing and loyalty for Arik Air, Africa's fastest growing airline; Sanjay Kumar, chief commercial officer for IndiGO Airlines, India's fastest growing low-cost carrier, which is looking to new international destinations on the back of its recent order of 200 A320 aircraft; and Air Canada, which will host an open briefing to airports interested in a market opportunity with Canada's national airline.
Air China representatives will give an overview of how they plan new routes and will outline its plans for growth out of Beijing. Air China recently confirmed briefings from Lufthansa and Emirates, which are looking for new routes out of Dubai.
The effectiveness and value of Route Exchange Live is reflected in real results. A briefing delivered by Thai Airways International in March of this year at Routes Asia in Incheon led to a new thrice-weekly service to Brussels Airport, and with so many more briefings planned for this year's World Routes event, we can surely look forward to more success stories.
