New York’s John F Kennedy (JFK) Airport Terminal One Group has partnered with technology firm Vision-Box to launch facial recognition boarding platforms at the airport.

The technology will be implemented at Terminal One, which is home to 26 international carriers such as Lufthansa, Air France, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, and includes the Terminal One Group Association (TOGA).

JFK Airport and TOGA believe that the adoption of a seamless biometric-based passenger management platform will serve as a strategic long-term growth pillar.

Vision-Box will deploy a self-service biometric boarding solution in the terminal.

“We empower airports to provide a seamless travel experience to their passengers and offer real value to their airline partners.”

Upon commissioning, passengers will be able to board their flights once the platform matches the live faces with previously enrolled and stored image ones. This will eliminate the need for passengers to show their passports or boarding passes.

TOGA executive director Steve Rowland said: “Biometric self-boarding is one of our top priorities – improving the passenger experience and enhancing security and safety for all those who travel at JFK Terminal One.
