Jotron, a leading manufacturer of professional communication systems for land, sea and air safety, will supply Jotron VHF coastal communication systems to eight of South Africa’s major commercial ports. Among them is Port of Durban, the largest and busiest shipping terminal on the African continent.

Marine Data Solutions, a South African partner of Jotron, is responsible for the local installation, commissioning and support. Marine Data Solutions works with the African maritime authorities to meet their technological needs. The eight radio systems will be installed over the next several months.

Jotron radios are configured with a fully VoIP interface by utilizing the existing network infrastructure from the port control to the remote radio sites. The radio sites situated at remote locations gives each port control the radio coverage within their area of responsibility. Jotron has led the way in radio communications for air traffic control for decades. Jotron VHF coastal radios are primarily used at ports and coastal stations, providing communication between ports, coastal stations and ships and offshore installations.

"By choosing Jotron communication solutions in this comprehensive project, the South African Port Authorities are guaranteed the latest in world-class proven technology, conformed to their functionality requirements," says Steve Nell, CEO at Marine Data Solutions (Pty) Ltd.

"We are delighted to sign this contract for delivery of VHF communication systems to the Port Authorities in South Africa. By having flexible communication solutions for a wide range of applications, we capture the booming opportunities in African markets," says Roar Flaatnes, sales and marketing director at Jotron ATC & Coastal Communication Division. – We are also very pleased with the contribution and effort from Marine Data Solutions in this project. We look forward to cooperating with all partners during this project.
