London Luton Airport, the UK’s fourth-largest airport, has successfully implemented AeroCloud’s innovative Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) to enhance operational efficiency, flexibility, and the overall passenger experience. This strategic partnership underscores Luton Airport’s commitment to modernisation and its dedication to serving over 17 million passengers annually with state-of-the-art technology.

As a cornerstone of British aviation since its establishment as a WWII military base, London Luton Airport has evolved to meet the demands of modern air travel. However, its legacy systems were struggling to support increasing passenger volumes and the airport’s ambitious expansion goals. Recognising the need for a seamless and efficient solution, Luton Airport initiated a tender in late 2023 to replace its outdated Common Use system without disrupting daily operations, even during peak travel periods.

AeroCloud’s CUPPS was the ideal choice for this transformation. The cloud-based, hardware-agnostic system provides significant benefits, including:

  • Cost Efficiency: AeroCloud’s technology reduces operational and capital expenditure, delivering tangible savings while supporting growth.
  • Reduced hardware dependency: The solution minimises the need for hardware and peripherals, offering a scalable and cost-effective platform.
  • Space optimisation: Shared use of check-in counters, bag-drop zones, and boarding gates ensures optimal utilisation of valuable airport space.
  • Enhanced passenger experience: Secure and efficient handling of check-in, bag-drop, security access, and boarding processes improves the passenger journey from arrival to departure.
  • Operational flexibility: Airlines, ground handlers, and other stakeholders can seamlessly collaborate using shared technology and integrated applications.

Despite the challenge of implementing the system during a busy half-term holiday, AeroCloud and Luton Airport collaborated closely to ensure a smooth transition. “The key to success was detailed planning and regular communication with all stakeholders,” noted a representative from London Luton Airport. This meticulous approach enabled the project to be delivered on schedule and without disruption to passengers.

With AeroCloud’s CUPPS in place, London Luton Airport is poised to accommodate high passenger volumes efficiently while providing an enhanced travel experience. This partnership highlights Luton Airport’s position as a leader in adopting cutting-edge technology to meet the demands of modern aviation.

AeroCloud founder and CEO George Richardson said “Our recent success at London Luton Airport is a huge milestone for our business, and a big statement to the airport community across Europe. By replacing outdated legacy systems with our best-in-class passenger processing platform, London Luton Airport has shown that even an airport of this scale can make a seamless transition to modern technology. We thank LTN for their trust in AeroCloud and look forward to bringing more airports across Europe into our portfolio and continuing to drive the evolution of airport technology.”
