Germany’s Frankfurt Airport is installing the Leidos ClearScan computed tomography (CT) scanner at the new security lane under transition in Terminal 1, Concourse A.

The scanner will be deployed under the supervision of Fraport, which is responsible for the organisation, management, and performance of security checkpoints at the airport.

Leidos said that its ClearScan cabin baggage scanner features advanced explosives detection algorithms, allowing travellers to retain approved electronics and liquids within the baggage.

The move will help reduce the time taken per traveller at the checkpoint.

Airports in Atlanta, Amsterdam, Chicago, and London were the first to incorporate these systems.

The deployment resulted in positive results for many years, claimed the technology provider.

Leidos senior vice-president and operations manager Brad Buswell said: “We are thrilled to support Fraport and bring the latest technologies to Germany’s largest aviation gateway.

“The company’s Security Enterprise Solutions operation works diligently with our partners and customers to deliver real solutions that enable safe and efficient passenger movement. We’re excited to see these innovations expand and support Germany’s work safeguarding passengers.”

Last November, London City Airport contracted Leidos to replace its existing security X-ray machines.

The new CT scanners from Leidos will be operational from April this year, making the airport among the first in the UK to offer a full CT security proposition.
