The switch to the new technology is part of the airport authority’s digital transformation strategy 2021-2025.

The queue management system at the airport features sensors, which are integrated with various systems of airports, as well as airline companies.

A total of 112 sensors have been installed in the passenger area to ensure round-the-clock monitoring.

Additionally, with the implementation of the ‘Automated Verification of the Boarding Pass’ system, the airport authority also intends to accelerate the completion of passenger procedures, improve security and enhance airport capacity.

The boarding pass verification system has the capability to automatically verify various formats of boarding passes such as printouts and digital format on the mobile phone. It reads the boarding pass of the passenger and validates it with the available data.

In a statement, Sharjah Airport Authority said: “The application of these two systems is part of many innovative solutions implemented by Sharjah Airport Authority with the aim of providing an integrated smart environment, including smart gates, advanced infrastructure, smart application for travellers and other technologies aimed at increasing passenger satisfaction, improving their experience through the airport, and enhancing the efficiency of the airport.”

In January, Airports Council International (ACI) presented Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) certificate to the Sharjah Airport.
