Last month, Elenium announced that it developed touchless, patent-pending technologies to measure the vital signs of passengers such as temperature, respiratory rate and heart rate.

The touchless technology will also be used at the kiosks and bag drops at Avalon Airport to limit the spread of Covid-19 and other transmissible diseases.

Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings said: “The partnership between Elenium and Avalon demonstrates how quickly a response to the Covid-19 virus can be implemented.

“This solution will allow passengers to go through the self-service experience without touching a device, thereby providing a seamless, intuitive and safe method of moving quickly through the airport.”

Passengers can control the kiosks and bag drops using head movements rather than by touching the screens.

The counters will have cameras that can connect the head movements with the cursor. In addition, the technology can read a passport when it is held in front of the camera, rather than by inserting it.

Elenium Automation CEO and co-founder Aaron Hornlimann said: “While this is very difficult time for the aviation industry, we have an opportunity to make the changes for passenger safety and well-being that will increase their confidence.

“We are very excited that Avalon is working with us to ensure the airport is in a great position to rebound from this crisis by giving their passengers and team a streamlined, safe airport experience. We believe the introduction of touchless self-service will encourage people to return to travel.”

Elenium has developed a suite of touchless technology to fight against Covid-19, including devices that use voice recognition technology developed along with Amazon Web Services.

The other offerings include touchless control using head movement control, touchless passport and identity card reading and touchless vital sign detection.

Last month, Etihad Airways partnered with Elenium to test airport technology that helps identify medically at-risk travellers, including passengers who are possibly in the early stages of the Covid-19 virus.
