Dubai Airports has installed LED lights at Dubai International Airport’s apron and aircraft parking areas.

The LED lights are expected to lead to total energy savings of around 7,000MWh a year, which is equivalent to cutting 495 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions or planting 8,000 seedlings each year for ten years.

Under the project, 1,880 conventional 1,000W and 2,000W light fixtures in the apron and parking areas were replaced with 1,000 new high-performance LED light fixtures.

This change to energy-efficient LED lights will decrease loads to 810kW from 2,200kW, which is a 63% drop in yearly consumption.

The project was implemented under last year’s agreement with Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO) for the installation of LED lights to replace 150,000 light fixtures across the airport.

Last month, Dubai Airports set out plans to ban all single-use plastics across its terminals at Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) from 1 January 2020.

In November, Dubai Technology Partners (DTP) implemented its tNexus Message Hub system and Dassault Systèmes’ DELMIA Quintiq fixed resource planning application at Dubai International Airport.

In July, Dubai Airports and Etihad ESCO installed a solar energy system comprising 15,000 photovoltaic panels at DXB Terminal 2.
