GMR Hyderabad Airport Cargo has introduced a platform to facilitate cargo charter operators through the air cargo terminal in Hyderabad, India.

Known as Hyderabad Cargo Charter Circle (HC3), the platform includes a membership programme offering different benefits.

These include free extra cargo storage time and a single point of contact for features related to cargo handling.

The membership also offers logistics support in the terminal and priority storage allocation.

The HC3 initiative is part of the current efforts to make Hyderabad an ‘Air Charter Hub’ for the southern region of India.

The company expects the initiative to improve the region’s connectivity with the world’s major hubs.

The consignees in South India will receive better control and reliability with respect to their cargo, with reduced multiple handlings of the consignment.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) CEO SGK Kishore said: “Cargo Charters in India as a concept is still in a nascent phase. While it contributes a small proportion of the volume handled by the Indian airports currently, as an emerging market Cargo Charters holds a lot of promise.

“Realising this potential, we have launched the HC3 platform, which will act as an industry forum led by Hyderabad Airport to give the value and advantage to this segment of the industry and help boost trade and logistics.”

Last month, GHIAL secured clearance from an environment ministry agency to double the capacity of Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
