BIO-key International and Oakwell Engineering have deployed a biometric ePassport immigration system to modernise passenger security at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia.

The new biometric gate solution facilitates passengers with a quick and secure transition through the immigration process by submitting their electronic passport and offering a fingerprint as authentication.
BIO-key International CEO Mike DePasquale said: "Since 9/11, airport security has experienced many significant changes and unfortunately most of the changes have contributed to inefficiencies for the traveller."
"Long lines in security, multiple ID checkpoints and other new security measures, instituted since 9/11, have all attributed to a less enjoyable experience for passengers," DePasquale added.
"By incorporating BIO-key technology as part of the screening process the airport is seeing immediate improvements in efficiency and equally passengers are appreciating the intelligent use of advanced biometric technology."

By GlobalDataCentral Jakarta Immigration Office spokesperson Maryoto Sumadi said: "This is a step forward, with these auto gates protected by biometric technology, Soekarno-Hatta has made itself an international airport with sophisticated technologies."
"We hope that the operation of these automated immigration gates will be able to enhance services for those who are leaving or arriving through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport," Sumadi said.
The new automated system is connected to the immigration information management system at the immigration office.
According to Maryoto, the new ePassport immigration systems will also be installed at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya and Hang Nadim Airport on the island of Batam.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has 150 check-in counters, 30 baggage delivery counters and 42 gates and each sub-terminal has 25 check-in counters, five baggage delivery counters and seven gates.
