Rolls-Royce’s new generation Trent 1000 TEN engine has entered service with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Designed to power all variants of Dreamliner family aircraft, the engine features new technologies to provide additional thrust and improved efficiency to the aircraft.

The Trent 1000 engine has previously powered the first flight of Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, as well as Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft.

“The Trent 1000 TEN offers important improvements to our customers and we would like to congratulate those customers who will be operating it from today.”

The engine was recently used to power an 18h test flight on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner across the US.

Rolls-Royce programmers director Chris Young said: “The Trent 1000 TEN offers important improvements to our customers and we would like to congratulate those customers who will be operating it from today.”

According to Rolls-Royce, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, powered by Trent 1000 engine, will be 20% more efficient than the Boeing 767.

The Trent 1000 engine is also equipped with various features to protect a flight against core icing and a heated engine section stator (ESS) system that offers advanced ice protection.

Last December, the engine flew for the first time on a Boeing 787 aircraft. The flight was followed by a test flight on the Boeing 747 flying test bed.

In February, the Trent 1000 engine powered the first Boeing 787-10 aircraft in a test flight in the US.
