The current purchase brings OHI’s total EC225 helicopter order in offshore configuration to ten, while the already delivered helicopter will be operated by the company’s Brazilian subsidiary, Omni Taxi Aéreo, for the oil company Petrobras.

The second EC225 from the initial contract is expected to be delivered in May this year with the remaining two next year, while the delivery of the additional six helicopters is anticipated to be completed by mid-2015.

Eurocopter said that the new helicopter is the first EC225 being delivered to the leasing firm Milestone Aviation Group, which OHI has partnered with for the helicopter purchase.

The EC225, when equipped with external fuel tanks, offers a range of up to 600nm and is capable of operating in adverse weather conditions.

The helicopter is equipped with safety features, including an automatic flight control system and the capability for full de-icing. This allows flights in all known icing conditions and it can be reconfigured for SAR missions from its offshore configuration for oil and gas companies.

Omni Taxi Aereo’s helicopter fleet comprises of five EC155s, six EC135s, four AS365 N3s, one AS365 N2 and four BO105s, as well as the new EC225.

The helicopters are used for various purposes including operations in Brazil’s oil and gas sector and for passenger transportation to and between oil rigs, while also used to perform emergency medical services.
