Boeing and WestJet have finalised an order for 65 737 MAX aircraft worth $6.3bn at list prices, as part of the letter of intent signed by the Calgary-based airline on 29 August.
The order comprises 40 737 aMAX 8s and 25 737 MAX 7s aircraft, and forms a large part of WestJet’s fleet renewal programme.

Deliveries under the new contract are slated from 2017 through 2027.
WestJet president and CEO Gregg Saretsky said: "The increased fuel efficiency and enhanced in-cabin amenities provided by the Boeing 737 MAX will contribute to both lower operating costs and a remarkable in-flight guest experience, which is supportive of our low-cost business model and combined with our lease renewal options, maintains our fleet plan flexibility going forward."
Built on the concept of Next-Generation 737, the 737 MAX is equipped with the latesttechnology CFM International LEAP-1B engines for high-efficiency and reliability.
The aircraft has a 13% improvement in fuel consumption compared with most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft today.

The latest order from WestJet brings the total number of orders for 737 MAX aircraft to 1,567.
