
Indonesia’s national carrier Garuda Indonesia has signed an $840m deal to lease 35 new ATR 72-600 aircraft from Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) to upgrade its regional fleet.
The new deal comprises a firm order for 25 aircraft and an option for ten more.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2013.
The ATR 72-600 has passenger capacity of 68-74 seats and flight range of 900nm (1,665km) when fully loaded at 7,500kg. Garuda’s new fleet of ATR 72-600s will feature 70 seats and will be equipped with ‘Armonia’ cabin.
The aircraft run on Pratt & Whitney 127M engines with maximum takeoff power of 2,750hp per engine
According to a statement by ATR, Garuda plans to fly the aircraft across the Indonesian archipelago as well as the airline’s main hubs.

By GlobalDataGaruda Indonesia president and CEO Emirsyah Satar said the agreement is part of the airline’s ‘Quantum Leap 2011-2015’ transformation and expansion programme, while broadening and strengthening its flight network domestically.
"In deploying our airline, we need aircraft offering the latest in technology and comfort for our customers," Satar said. "ATR 72-600s provide the perfect combination of most modern technologies and lowest operating costs for regional networks."
Garuda Indonesia said it will use these new propeller aircraft on routes that are under the 400nm range in all regions of the country.
The ATR 72-600s are capable of reaching small airports with runways measuring less than 1,600m,.
The latest deal is part of Garuda Indonesia plans to join the SkyTeam global alliance in March 2014 by expanding its network of destinations and improving service quality. These measures will also enable the airline to be in the race when ASEAN Open Sky policy is implemented.
