India-based budget airline GoAir has finalised a firm order with Airbus for 72 A320neo aircraft for an undisclosed sum.

The newly confirmed deal has doubled GoAir’s order to 144 aircraft, and enables the airline to expand its domestic and international routes.

Airbus commercial aircraft for customers chief operating officer John Leahy said: “The A320neo offers unbeatable operating costs and GoAir’s passengers will continue to enjoy the unrivalled comfort that only Airbus aircraft offer.

“By doubling its order to 144 aircraft, GoAir will benefit from a greatly expanded network.”

The company also noted that GoAir was the first airline to use A320neo in the Spaceflex configuration with 186 seats.

In 2011, Go Air ordered 72 A320neo aircraft, two of which were delivered last June.

Equipped with new generation engines and Sharklet wing-tip devices, Airbus’ A320neo family aircraft provides more than 15% in fuel savings and 20% by 2020.

Airbus has so far delivered nine A320neo aircraft to three customers.

In addition, the company announced that it delivered 688 commercial aircraft to 82 customers worldwide last year.

The company also secured 731 net orders, which include 607 single-aisle and 124 wide-body aircraft, from 51 customers during the same period.
